Archeological Museum of Volos
The Archeological Museum of Volos founded in 1909. Both the rich and varied exhibits and their exhibition in the hall of neolithic objects and the hall of tomb replicas are of particular interest. The most important items of the collection of the Museum come from the prehistoric settlements Sesklo and Dimini. Compose a complete picture of the Neolithic era in Thessaly and generally in Greece.
Brickworks factory of Tsalapatas
The Brickworks factory of Tsalapatas founded in 1926. Since then and until 1978, when it closed down, it was a major production unit nationwide. Today, it is a rare example of a surviving industrial complex of this industry. The museum belongs to the network of thematic technology museums of PIOP. It aims to highlight the historical identity of the factory and the brickwork development in Greece and internationally. The configuration of the permanent exhibition is supplemented by models and rich visual material.
Volos Town Museum
The Museum of Volos City is the first and only modern City Museum in Greece up to this time. It presents the daily activity of the city inhabitants from the 19th century until today, in a contemporary manner, while it constitutes a study of the history of Greek cities and the development of the Greek region, highlighting the evolution of the city in modern Greece. The museum has sections for the industrial heritage, the memories of the residents, major events that took place in Greece and how these impacted on the city. The most important events of Volos, its architecture etc. In the courtyard there is a part of the east wing of the byzantine wall, on the hill of Palaia (Old Town). At the ground floor, there are many temporary exhibitions and events, a gift shop, and a reading room.
Theophilos Museum
Hatzianastasis mansion, known as Kontos house and Theophilos Museum, is located in Anakasia. In 1905 was bought by Giannis Kontos, who made an adjustment work according to the neoclassical models of the era. In 1912, the decoration of the top storey lobby began by the great folk painter Theophilos Hatzimihail. Kontos house is one of the most significant modern monuments in the region. Both the building and its painting decoration are in excellent condition. It is a unique Pelion mansion preserving a comprehensive pictorial example of Theophilos.
Portaria History & Folklore Museum
The History and Folkore Museum is housed at the Zoulia mansion in Portaria. The building, a typical example of local architecture, dates back to 1864 and used to operate as a professional School for Girls. A permanent historical and folklore exhibition, with objects, artifacts, photos, paintings etc. which all tell the story and lifestyle of the locals. Most of the exhibits are authentic, original, and enable the visitor to get to know some of the elements of the economic and cultural development of the wider region –focusing on the lifestyle and reintegration of Egyptians in this locale –from the early 19th to the mid-20th century. The museum has various rooms referring to Egypt, education, private life of Portaria inhabitants, Theoxenia and Sp. Porfyris Hotel and others.
